Podcasts are a go-to in our house right now. We’ve been listening to a few with our kiddos, Charlie listens while he works and drives, and I am loving listening to them in the bath and while I sit in the girls room during bedtime. Also? Nothing makes me happier than a walk in the woods with a podcast. It’s so calming. (except when you listen to Serial while you run, that isn’t calming, whoa. Lesson learned.)
Podcasts are saving me from mindless scrolling. Keeping me up to date on news, fun, and often inspiring the heck out of me!
Here are a few of my current favorites!
The Lively Show is my go-to when I need inspiration, a small dose of woo-woo, and a lots of deep breaths. I also love that Jess is living a very different life than me, with different experiences and goals, but I can really identify with so much of what she shares.
Life Coach School. . . so, the name isn’t my favorite. But she’s super no-nonsense, tons of RAH RAH YOU CAN DO IT and one of my favorites to listen to when I’m on a walk and want to really go.
Fearless Rebelle is a new listen for me, it’s all about all the things I’m all about; self help, body image, and body positivity. I’ve only listened to a few episodes so far, and I’m eating them up.
Code Switch is a podcast all about race and identity. It’s created by journalists of color and it’s incredibly quick, smart, and always challenging and enlightening. Bonus? They often have some of my favorite actors/actresses on and it’s incredible to hear more about the person behind the characters.
Invisibilia is one that my husband introduced me to and I really like to listen to while I put the girls to bed. It’s all about the assumptions, beliefs, emotions, and things inside our head that control our behavior and conditioning. It’s one of those ones that I turn off and just sit there for a second thinking…. and thinking.
The Moth Story Hour gets to me on all levels. Sometimes the topics make me just sob my eyes out, and other times I’m laugh crying. It’s real people, telling real stories. It’s slam for a slam hater, and feels like a dessert to listen to.
Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me! This is an NPR classic, hilarious, pokes fun at the harder parts of the current new’s and reminds me of my parents (we’d listen to this and Prairie Home Companion in the car on weekends). This is my go-to podcast for late night drives when I need to be sure to stay awake.
For the KIDDOS!
Brains On! This podcast is a big favorite in our home, it’s a science podcast for curious kiddos. It has kid scientist, reporters, and basically answers all the questions kid’s ask!
Sparkle Stories. These are stories created for kiddos that cover big emotional topics, family dynamics, holidays, and all the rest! My girlies adore it, especially the JunkYard Animals stories.
This is by no means a comprehensive list! Just the ones I have downloaded now and am loving. I’d love to hear your recommendations too! To listen, I just use the free podcast App that came on my iPhone, just search any of these names and they will pop right up! If you download them while WiFi you can listen anytime/anywhere.
