We’re slow and steady making it a pretty solid tradition to get away for Thanksgiving. In the past we’ve always headed for the stormy Oregon coast to spend some time with family (and usually Noele’s birthday!) celebrating and cozying up away from the Holiday hullaballoo as much as possible.
This year, we followed suit, but tried a new destination. And it was SO gorgeous. My parents invited our family to go to Collins Lake Resort, right near mount hood. It’s a beautiful village of fully outfitted condo’s right near the base of Mt. Hood. And we were loving it.
We had an kinda ridiculous start to our trip. . . leaving at 3:30am. I couldn’t sleep, woke up too excited, and Eliza was awake too. So? I decided to just load up and head out! I figured we would be sleepy if we waited till 5am (our plan) and drove, so why not just get on the road now. My strange and kinda offbeat plan, TOTALLY worked.
We had the good fun of getting to try out a 2018 Toyota 4-Runner for our vacation (thanks Toyota and Drive Shop!) and once the kiddos were tucked into their carseats I drove and everyone slept till almost crossing the boarder into Oregon!
We rolled into Portland right around 8am and snagged breakfast at the highly recommended, Harlow. and OMG. Everything was vegan, gluten free, BEAUTIFUL and tasted amazing. What stole the show though was the girls quinoa pancakes with strawberry cashew cream and real maple syrup.
We loaded back into our sweet ride and drove the hour or so left to Mt.Hood. The view was beautiful and the village was spectacular. And. . . we cranked up the Christmas music.
The condo’s boasted a hot soaking pool out in the forest (my favorite) that was fully jetted and perfectly removed from everything else. There were also miles of well maintained trails, a gorgeous lake (Collins Lake!) and a beautiful lodge as well.
Not only was there a soaking pool… but a full on pool and hot tub close to the condos as well. The kiddos had a blast in all 3 spots, and I opted to relax in the hotter pools and the sauna. There is nothing quite as magic as cold rain while you sit in a hot tub. We went on a family vacation as a kiddo to somewhere snowy (Mom, was that Mt.Hood too?) with a swimming pool and I still remember how magic that felt!
I got in a good run on the trails, a few gorgeous walks (while I listened to the podcast Lore… that was a questionable choice, eek!), and a whole lot of relaxing. It was such an ideal way to celebrate with family.
Next I’ll share about our adventure to Timberline lodge! You know… the place where the (exteriors) of THE SHINING were filmed?! Gah. It was (creepy) so beautiful!
