8! We’re firmly into Big Kid land, no longer a preschooler, not new to school, just elementary living. Chapter book reading. Asking me math questions I have to think hard about. . . BIG KID life.
One of Noele’s favorite activities is games! So theming her birthday party around a game day was just perfect! We set out a bunch of different tables at all heights to accommodate all the kiddos, and went to TOWN on the games!
One of the fan Favorites was Shark Bite! Players take turns rolling the die and fishing for the colorful sea creatures using the fishing rod, but. . . watch out! That shark might just bite! The anticipation on this game is REAL. Eliza especially was giggling madly the entire time just waiting for the shark to bite! My favorite thing about this game? Besides the incessant laughing it brought! There were no batteries and Noele was able to set the whole thing up her self!
The next game that was a HUGE hit was Giggle Wiggle. Giggle Wiggle is a cute caterpillar with hands to spare. Players race to place their colored marbles from the caterpillar’s bottom row of hands all the way to the top as he wiggles and giggles to the music, and when he spins it’s QUICK and unexpected! This game was right up the big kid’s alley because it’s pretty challenging! But was a huge hit with the 5 year olds thanks to the music and wild spins.
The next game that was a big fan favorite was Pop The Pig… this is one of those ones that is so simple, but kids just LOVE it. Every age was successful, and the “Pop!” was a ridiculous hit every time. Players take turns rolling the die, feeding the pig, and pushing down on his head. Each pump makes his belly grow bigger, bigger and bigger until…POP! Bonus! Another easy to set up, stores all inside itself, no batteries game.
Catch the Fox was an undeniable hit because. . . his pants fall off. And that is in the top three of kiddo humor. This greedy fox is snapping up the chickens and stuffing them into his pockets. But when there are too many chickens, his pants will fall down and the chickens will escape! Roll the die to see how many chickens to add into the fox’s pockets, and push his head one time. Before you know it, the fox will lose his pants and the chickens will roll everywhere! This game was France’s 2016 Toy of The Year, and due to the nearly exploding off pants? It’s a big contender in this house too.
The Final game. . . and the one that EVERY kid loved (still loves, and in fact that dang dog comes with us even on car rides… what?) was Doggy Doo. Yes. It poops. Yes. It Farts. And yes… my kids COULD NOT stop playing it. Feed your cute doggie, and squeeze the leash until…plop! Also? We aren’t the only one’s obsessed… this game has 120 MILLION views on YouTube right now. So, all the solidarity to the other parents out there watching a dog poop with their gleeful kiddos. And yes… it poops without batteries.
The kiddos played (and played) for most of the day, stopping for some snacking (caramel apples!) and gift opening (a serious highlight at 8! and the winning gift? Her friend who gave her 8 $1 bills… she is still talking about it!) I kept it really easy for myself with a store bought coffee cake, coffee service, and some easy snacking foods.
This was probably one of the least stressful, happiest, and easiest birthday parties we have thrown (and friends, we’ve THROWN some parties) and Noele had such a blast ringing in such a big year.
BRB, crying about her being 8 and my baby being 5, and Christmas and OMG just TIME.. please.
