When I started working out at home I was met (endlessly!) with people saying “how in the world do you stay motivated?” and honestly, it can be really hard. When the only accountability is me. It’s easier to let my desire to show up on my mat wane. I ride that ebb and flow pretty well, but lately as my teaching schedule increases, my blog work grows, and my kiddos have more activities and adventures… I really need that time to sweat to help me feel like myself and have energy. Consequently, my home workouts have been really important to me. I’ve been posting and sharing all about Gixo on my IG since October (I fell in love with it on the Retreat in Vancouver!) but have been really loving it these past few weeks.

What is it?
Gixo is an app with live fitness classes, hosted by professional trainers, who can track (if you allow it!) your pace on a run, let you know interval times, and during your tabatta/hiit/booty/essentials workouts show you videos of each move and talk you through it. You can choose to type in your rep number at the end of an interval and the trainer helps you set goals based on your reps or pace, or whatever info you text them. You can opt to have your video camera on for water breaks (or sometimes for the whole class depending on the class!) to check in, and it’s ridiculous how humanizing and FUN it makes the whole experience.
Well, working out at home can be really hard to stick with. Signing up for a class is great accountability to not putting off your workout. It’s also awesome to be able to workout with other people all over the world (my last class had people in New York, New Zealand, and California!) virtually and help to push each other a bit further. My number one reason? I really need something quick and effective that keeps me coming back lately. And this is fitting the bill. I’m a big fan of switching it up, and during these colder months, I need some support!
Why are you telling us NOW?
Gixo and Sweat Pink have partnered and asked me to participate in an AMAZING campaign. One that seriously bucks the New Years trends perpetuated by the majority of the fitness world for January. #IamLimitless is a campaign to celebrate that when we’re working out together we can lift each other up. We can push pass limiting ideas (I’ve been sharing some of mine on IG.. and they’re weird and rough!), make more time for ourselves, build each other up and accomplish new goals together. Basically? They’re celebrating community over competition, and put together the most inspiring hashtag to follow. Full of ridiculous WCW (woman crush Wednesday for those not addicted to IG) worthy social media influencers who are sharing not just their workouts but links to the people who lift them up, heartfelt accounts of how their brains and hearts are being grown by embracing their own bravery without limits, as well as some amazing accountability to working out!
How do I do it?
To start you download the app. They offer a free week (!) and have classes every 30 minutes during the day. Then you just sign into class (it’s super self explanatory, but the home class page looks like this!) After the free week I believe it’s $17 a month. So a far cry from the cost of a personal trainer or even a gym membership.
When you sign up for class you can opt for a notification a few minutes before class so you don’t forget, and then otherwise? You just show up… wherever you are! I just turn on my headphones and do my workout right then! I love the tabatta and other 25min home classes, and the 40min endurance run the very most. I’ve never felt compared or put down for my (slow) places or ‘not meeting’ goals, and have been met with only reassurance and so much quality information from the trainers whenever I ask any questions. You can learn more about it on their website here.
I highly recommend downloading it and just giving it a go for a run or home workout. Commit to three workouts in your free week and see how you feel. And? be sure to tag #IamLimitless so I can also see you and cheer you on. This whole thing is thriving, growing us all, and fricken shoving limits to the side as we SHOW UP together.
Also, I’ll be sharing my Gixo schedule for the week on Monday’s on IG so we can try and all workout together!
I ended my last run here at the top of a waterfall and had to send this picture to the class I was running with! Most of them had never been to Washington. So, obviously, I had to brag a little.
